Facilitator Bios: JULIANA PONGUTA is a Colombian-born contemporary dancer, choreographer, and teacher Juliana Pongutá Forero has performed in Mexico, Peru, Argentina and the United States. In addition, her teaching engagements have also taken her Colombia and Brazil. She has performed with the Contemporary Dance Company of the National University of Arts of Argentina (UNA), and the Contemporary Dance Company of the Universidad de San Martin (UNSAM) Argentina. She also collaborated on independent projects with choreographers such as Gabriel Contreras, Elia Mrak, Cristina Turdo, Gustavo Lesgart (Argentina) Jhonatan González (Colombia) Kyoko Ruch and Briana Ashlet Stuart (USA). She is currently a member of the dance group of DC choreographer Nancy Havlik. Beginning with Colombian folk dance and tango in her youth, Pongutá Forero’s broad curiosity about creative and expressive movement has led her to explore many additional movement forms including yoga, judo, contact improvisation, dance movement therapy and creative movement research. “Finlandia”, a theater work performed by the art collective "La Montón", co-founded by Pongutá Forero, was performed at the Festival Buenos Aires Danza Contemporánea 2016. Along with Seth Dellinger, she currently co-leads ¡DC Movement Research!, a laboratory group that uses movement games to explore how body languages are developed through the interplay of body intelligence, instinct, and the creative imagination.  Originally from Detroit, Michigan BRIANA ASHLEY STUART received her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of Michigan in 2013. Since then Briana has performed and taught, nationally and internationally as an independent artist as well as with StepAfrika! and SJEwing & Dancers at numerous colleges/universities,  Washington DC's City Rhythms Festival, Catholic Universities Hartke Theater, the Velocity DC Festival, the Capital Fringe Festival, Guantanamo Bay Naval Base as well as many others. In 2016 she was chosen as Dance Place's 2016 New Releases Commission Recipient in support her new work "E Pluribus" and most recently, she taught a masterclass in stepping as well as performed her latest contemporary solo [wonder]ing in the 2016 ON THE ROOF Dansfestival in Brussels, Belgium. Much of her choreography is rooted in highly physical floor movement as it relates to human feeling and expression. She is largely interested in floorwork as it pertains to strength, flow and release and seeks to explore the possibilities of the body passing through and over the floor. She believes that with mindful and intelligent movement one can push the limits of the bodies movement potential. FAQs What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
